Husband among 3 to die for killing Tumpa in Khulna

The accused in Tumpa’s murder are being taken to jail from court
A court in Khulna on Monday sentenced 3 people including husband Prosenjit Gaine to death and one has been acquitted in the case of killing the housewife named Tumpa Mondal at Badurgacha village in Dumuria upazilla of Khulna district. The court also sentenced them to seven-year imprisonment and fined Tk 45,000 each under two other sections.
Khulna district and sessions judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury announced the verdict.
The convicts are Prosenjit Gaine, husband of the victim, Animesh Gaine, and Biplob Kanti Mandal. Prosenjit and Biplob are absconding. Besides Sudash Gaine, brother of Prosenjit, has been acquitted.
Tumpa was choked to death by miscreants on October 7, 2016, and her body was dumped in Ghangrail River, according to prosecution. Police recovered her body on October 9. The deceased brother Samit Mandal lodged a case in the incident.
SI Keramot Ali submitted chargesheet against four accused including Tumpa’s husband on November 25, 2017. After examining all the records and 26 witnesses, the court gave the death penalty to three and acquitted one.
