Human chain against changing School`s name

Students, parents, and locals have made human chain in protest of changing the name of Shampur Secondary School in Bakerganj, Barishal.  

Students, parents, teachers, public representatives, and employees of the school took part in an hour-long human chain program on both sides of Shampur Bakerganj Regional Road on Wednesday morning.

A memorandum has been issued to Bakerganj UNO at the end of the human chain and mass signature program.

Protesters have drawn attention to the district administration including the higher authorities of the government, Bakerganj upazila administration to this issue. They have sought the intervention of the education minister not to change the name of the school. 

Shampur Secondary School was established in 1932. Recently, a new four-storey building has been made in the school and the field has been filled.  

According to the locals, a few days ago, Biplob Roy Chowdhury, son of zamindar Natu Babu, has made a market on the land donated by his grandfather for school. It has been alleged that he is trying to change the name of Shampur Secondary School.

Parents and students of the school said that if Biplob Roy Chowdhury wants to do something in the area, he can set up a college named after his father Natu Babu without changing the name of Shampur Secondary School. Since there is no college in this area. Building a college will benefit hundreds of students in the area. 

Speakers said that if any attempt is made to change the 88 years old school's name it won't be tolerated.

School managing committee members Alam Bhuiyan, teachers, guardians, public representatives and executive members, formers students Amir Hossain and Md. Shamim Howlader were present.
