How long LPG cylinder last?

In Bangladesh, the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is increasing day by day. From village to town and even in cities, household cooking is dependent a large on it. But do you know its safety validity? A new cylinder is valid for 10 years. The date of production is written engraved on the cylinders.

After the production date, it is safe for10 years; but you have to test its safety compatibility every five years. It’s essential to check the validity before keeping a cylinder in the kitchen as you can see it easily on its body.

Regarding this issue, the Inspector of the Explosive Directorate Abdul Hannan said, according to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Rules - 2004 (revised up to 2016), there are provisions for cylinder fixed periodic testing. Rules for Liquid natural gas (CNG) cylinder is to test every five years continuously.

Under the rules, the import and production standards of gas cylinders have been set. The Explosives Department also provide licenses to the manufacturer and investigate if any accidents occur. There are nominated agencies of the Explosive Directorate for each cylinder test before market. There is a demand of four lakh cylinders in Bangladesh, of which 80 percent is supplied locally and another 20 percent is imported.
