How Minni spends first night at condemned cell

Ayesha Siddique Minni, who was sentenced to death in the Rifat Sharif murder case in Barguna, is now in the condemned cell of Barguna District Jail. The other five convicts sentenced to death in the case are also there. However, Minni has been kept in the women's unit of the condemned cell.

How did Minni spend the first night in the condemned cell? Jail Superintendent of Barguna District Jail Anwar Hossain said to media.

He said the first night was a great disappointment for Minni. She couldn't sleep at night at all. She could not believe her own death sentence. All the six convicts, including Minni, who were sentenced to death in the Rifat Sharif murder case, are mentally disturbed.

The jail superintendent said the inmates would never be able to get out of the cell. Once a month they will be able to meet relatives. Also once a week they will be able to talk on the phone with their relatives up to a certain time.

He added that according to the jail rules, all the six prisoners were given plates, bowls and blankets in the condemned cell. Besides, each accused has been given two sets of clothes by the jail. They have to wear those costumes.

On June 26, 2019, in front of Barguna Government College, Nayan Bond and his accomplices publicly stabbed Rifat Sharif with machetes and seriously injured him. Injured Rifat died on the same day at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Rifat's father Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif filed a case the next day.

The court on Wednesday sentenced six accused, including Rifat Sharif's wife Ayesha Siddique Minni, to death and acquitted four others in the case. Besides, each of the convicts was fined Tk 50,000.

The convicts are- Rifat Faraji, Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy, Md. Hasan and Ayesha Siddique Minni.

The acquitted are- Md. Musa, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md. Sagar and Kamrul Hasan Simun.
