June 26 marks one year of the assassination of Rifat Sharif who was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College by the teen gang ‘Bond Force’ on June 26, 2019. The brutal murder caused a stir in the country. Now Rifat’s family is waiting for justice.

The day after the incident on June 26, Rifat’s father Md. Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif filed a murder case against 12-13 others, mentioning the names of 14 people. Although the trial was going on at a fast pace, now it is halted due to the shutdown of the court in the coronavirus situation.

How was Eid? – when asked Ayesha Siddika Minni, wife of murdered Rifat Sharif – who was at the center and the discussed person in the incident – could not say a word due to shocking, however, her father Md. Mozammel Hossain Kishore replied to the question.

In a tone of anger and regret, he said, “This social system is not as good as before. The truth is hidden, and the false is prevailing now. There is no peace in our mind, we could not even celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. There is no desire to live in this world.”

“They have destroyed our family, crushed Minni’s dream. They didn’t let us be well. The danger is not leaving us behind. On the Eid day, I prayed only for the girl and for Rifat,” Minni’s father said.

“A few days ago, my dad had a second stroke. My wife has also been ill for a long time. My beautiful daughter cannot able to move normally. Being depressed all the time. We have to give her sleeping pills every day to keep her asleep,” he added.

In a tearful voice, Minni's father Kishore said, “My daughter has been accused of murder. God will free her from this accusation. However, some insidious people are spreading all kinds of false propaganda about my daughter on Facebook. They also threatened her. Someone wrote on Facebook that they will kill Minni wherever they find her. As soon as the court opens after Eid-ul-Azha, I will file a case under the ICT Act,” he added.
