A Dhaka court today sent housewife Mahfuza Rahman to jail in a case filed over torturing a 14-year-old domestic help in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud Ur Rahman passed the order as police produced her before the court after end of her two-day remand and pleaded to keep her behind the bars till the end of probe in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman on July 4 had placed Mahfuza on two-day remand in a case lodged for brutally torturing her 14-year-old maid in her Kuril Biswaroad area flat.

Another court here on July 2 had placed Mahfuza's husband Asadur Rahmam Arif, a private bank official, on two-day remand in the case.

The victim was rescued from Arif and Mahfuza's flat on June 30 and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by her sister.

She later filed the case against Asadur Rahman Arif and his wife Mahfuza Rahman.

The victim used to work at the house of Arif and Mahfuza for the last eight months and she was brutally beaten by the couple on any plea.

“They used to pour hot water on me, burn me with hot spoons and hit my head on the wall. I tried to flee the home on several occasions but they didn’t let me go out,” the victim told police.
