House fare has been waived by 30 percent from July to December among the first and second-year students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) who rent different residential buildings in the areas adjacent to the campus.
The decision was taken at the meeting of Khulna district administration, KUET-adjacent homeowners’ welfare association, and KUET authorities on Thursday.
Khulna DC Mohammad Helal Hossain said the house rent has been waived by 30 percent from July to December. However, if the university opened in the meantime, the rent will be waived until the month after the opening. Only first and second-year students will get this benefit from homeowners. Financially disadvantaged students who have not yet been able to pay their rent in April, May, and June will have to pay their rent gradually in consultation with homeowners.
DC added that the same steps will be taken for the students of Khulna University.
Ismail Saifullah, Director of Student Welfare, KUET, said all local homeowners considered the humanitarian things and behaved well during the coronavirus pandemic. This decision protects the interests of both homeowners and students.
