The ongoing closure of all educational institutions in the country is likely to be extended again as the COVID-19 infections in Bangladesh surged alarmingly, said a senior official of the Ministry of Education.

According to the Ministry of Education, the decision will be taken considering the safety of students. An announcement will be made soon.

The government announced the closure of educational institutions from March 18 last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. After that, the holiday was extended in a few phases. During the closure, the government continued class activities online and on Sangsad TV. However, the government decided to reopen the school and college on March 30 and the university on May 24.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases on Wednesday has exceeded 3500. Asked whether the educational institution would reopen in this situation, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education Md Mahbub Hossain told the media that a decision would be announced in a day or two.
