Hefazat leader Monir on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court today granted a three-day remand to Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mufti Monir Hossain Qasemi, the defunct finance secretary, in a case filed over mayhem in 2013 in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter's court passed the verdict on Wednesday.

The general registration branch sources of the concerned court informed this.

The accused Monir was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court after a four-day remand in a case filed with Paltan Police Station. The investigating officer of the case requested to keep him in jail for the sake of proper investigation of the case. Following the application, the court ordered him to be sent to jail. At the same time, the investigating officer of the case applied for another seven-day remand for a proper investigation in another case of Paltan Police Station in 2013. Following the application, the court granted him a three-day remand.

Earlier on May 22, the accused was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court with 10 days remand prayers in a case filed with Paltan Police Station in 2013. Following the application, the court granted him a four-day remand. Earlier on May 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police arrested him from Baridhara in the capital at around 8.45 pm.
