Hefazat leader Mamunul put on 7-day remand

A court in Dhaka today has granted seven-day remand to Mamunul Haque, central joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam and general secretary of Dhaka metropolis.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari’s court granted the remand around 11:30 am on Monday. Following the remand order, Mamunul Haque was taken from the court to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital.
Earlier, Mamunul Haque was taken to the court from the DB office around 11:15 am. On the same day, the investigating officer of Mohammadpur police station appealed to remand him for seven days in a case of vandalism and sabotage.
On the other hand, Mamunul Haque’s lawyer appealed for bail, seeking cancellation of his remand. The court passed the order after hearing both the parties.
Tejgaon Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained Mamunul Haque on Sunday around 1:00 pm from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in the capital’s Mohammadpur on Sunday.
At a press briefing on that day, Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harun Aur Rashid said “Mamunul had been shown arrested in a vandalism case in Mohammadpur in 2020”. There are several more cases against him in Motijheel, Paltan and Narayanganj.
He added that Mamnul would be produced in court in the case of Mohammadpur police station and will seek seven days remand. He will be remanded in a few more cases.
