Health Division gets Tk 50 crore to fight corona

The Ministry of Finance has allocated Tk 50 crore to the Health Service Division (HSD) to raise awareness about the coronavirus and to expand medical facilities as a preparation for the treatment of the coronavirus patients.
A letter signed by the deputy secretary of the Finance Division Mohammad Abu Yusuf was sent to HSD on Wednesday stating the allocation.
The letter states that “in the context of the proposal of the Health Service Division, the Tk 50 crore allocated for coronavirus (Covid-19) prevention and treatment for the patients from the Finance Division’s unexpected expenditure management sector in the current 2019-2020 fiscal revised budget.
Of the allocation, Tk 45,51,75,000 crore will be spent on the supply of medical and surgical equipment, Tk 1.98 crore on public awareness, and Tk 2.50 crore will be spent in the chemical-re-agent sector.
However, some conditions have also been added to the expenditure. Details should be reported to the Finance Division on what sectors the money will be spending within 10 days. Besides, this allocation cannot be spent in any sector other than the proposed (coronavirus) sector.
Earlier, on March 5, the Health Service Division of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance demanding Tk 100 crore allocation.
Every country is in the dire state with the coronavirus outbreak globally as the virus is spreading to 115 countries besides China.
The number of confirmed cases and deaths by the virus has increased over time, so far, 121,517 people affected and 4,383 have died of the coronavirus.
Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) reported three coronavirus cases in Bangladesh on Sunday.
