Awami League’s joint general secretary and Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday advised BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to study before commenting on the coronavirus.

“BNP’s task is to criticize and always find out the mistake whether the government is doing right or wrong,” he said in a press briefing after a meeting with the Natore District Awami League on contemporary politics at the new building of party president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said there are many developed countries in the world including America, France, who are stronger than us. People in those countries are getting infected with the coronavirus and struggling to fight against this.

“The virus is detectable 15 days after infection. Before that, it is not possible to identify. Fakhrul needs to study on coronavirus, he needs to know about this. The virus has become a global disaster. Our government is trying hard to make people aware of this disaster.”

There was a panic over the coronavirus in all the developed countries of the world. Our country is also not free from danger, he said. “Since three people have been identified in our country, we have to be careful about this too.”

Mentioning the government’s measures at airports and land ports, Dr. Hasan Mahmud informed that the Ministry of Health has given various instructions to make people aware and alert. “Awami League leaders will be with the people during any disaster like in the past.”

Informing some opportunists were entering the Awami League, the party joint general secretary said, “The party will have to get rid of them.”

“Those are the main Awami League activists who were with the party in the toughest times. Awami League is a traditional organization that works for the welfare of the people. As a citizen of the country, it is our job to tackle any disaster unitedly.”

“There can be no extortionists or terrorists in our organization,” Dr. Hasan Mahmud also said adding that “those involved in extortion, terrorism, and land possessing activities should be identified.”

During this, organizational secretary SM Kasal Hossain, ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were present.
