Today is the birthday of Shakib Al Hasan, one of the best all-rounders in the world. Born in 1986 on this day in Magura district, the star cricketer has set foot at 34-years-old.
In the beginning, Shakib was called by the family name ‘Faisal’. His father Mashroor Reza was a Krishi Bank official and mother Shirin Sharmin is a housewife.
Father Mashroor Reza used to be a football fan, but Shakib grew up with bat-ball hoping to play cricket for Bangladesh National Team. The cricketer, who is left hand in both batting and bowling side, was a quick learner to go beyond in his age. In the interest of his son, his father admitted him to the Bangladesh Sports Education Institute (BKSP).
Later, Shakib showed his impressive performance in the Bangladesh Under-19 team for which he made his international debut with the red-green jersey against Zimbabwe at Harare in 2006.
In 2009, as the only Bangladeshi all-rounder, he became one of the top-ranked all-rounders. He also showed his outstanding performance in the Test and took the best all-rounder’s seat. The cricketer became the first cricketer to be the best all-rounder in three categories of cricket in January 2015.
Shakib made his debut in the Test series against India in the year after the ODI debut. In 2006, he played his first match in the short format T20 against Zimbabwe in Khulna.
Shakib has proved his performance in almost every country starting from every tournament. He is showing great pride in this era franchise-based T20 league outside international cricket. He also played almost all the leagues in the world.
So far, Shakib has scored 3930 runs in 57 Test matches at an average of 39.7 with five centuries and 25 half-centuries. His highest inning with the white dress is 217 runs. As a bowler, he got 210 wickets with an average of 31.2. He got 10 wickets twice and got 5 wickets 18 times.
In ODI format, Shakib scored 6436 runs in 209 matches at an average of 37.86 with 9 centuries and 48 half-centuries. His best in one match is 134 (unbeaten). As a bowler, he got 266 wickets with an average of 29.73.
