The High Court on Tuesday stayed the election of the Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union (BFUJ) for two months, which was scheduled to be held on October 23.
The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah handed down the order following a writ petition.
Lawyer Nurul Karim appeared for the writ petitioner during the hearing.
The petition was filed by Mohammad Hasan Ferdous, former general secretary of Chattogram Union of Journalists, challenging the legality of the voter list prepared for the BFUJ election in 2021.
The name of writ petitioner Hasan Ferdous was dropped from the voter list. Later, he submitted an application to the BFUJ president and the registrar general of the trade union in August and September this year for correcting the voter list by including his name, but they are yet to do it.
