HC grants anticipatory bail to MP Nixon Chowdhury

The High Court on Tuesday has granted anticipatory bail to Faridpur-4 Independent MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon).
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Md. Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal passed the order in the wake of Nixon Chowdhury’s petition for an anticipatory bail in a case filed by the Election Commission (EC) alleging violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct.
Earlier on Sunday, Nixon’s lawyer Dr. Shahdin Malik appealed for bail in the relevant branch of the High Court. He was heard in court today. Lawyer M Manzur Alam was with him.
Lawyer M Manzur Alam confirmed the matter to Daily Bangladesh.
The EC filed a case against Nixon on October 15 for violating the code of conduct as an MP in the upazila elections.
District Senior Election Officer Noabul Islam filed the case with the Charbhadrasan Police Station in Faridpur on behalf of the EC.
The case alleges that MP Nixon Chowdhury insulted the Faridpur deputy commissioner and UNO. The Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Bhanga arrested a man for violating the code of conduct on election day. In the incident, Nixon abused and swearing him and the concerned magistrate over the UNO’s mobile phone. Moreover, Nixon Chowdhury has violated the code of conduct by appearing in the constituency and participating in the election activities.
