The High Court has directed to form an expert committee to provide anti-rape devices to women to prevent rape and sexual harassment.

The committee, headed by the secretary of the ICT ministry, has been asked to keep an expert professor. At the same time, a rule has been issued on why instruction shouldn’t be given for women to take adequate security measures to protect them from rape and sexual abuse.

On Sunday, the High Court bench comprised of Justice M Inayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman passed the order. The committee has been asked to submit a progress report to the court within the next 60 days.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed in the High Court asking for the provision of an anti-rape device to prevent women from sexual assault.

Ishrat Hasan, an advocate for the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services, Trust (BLAST) and the CCB Foundation, filed the writ.
