The High Court (HC) directed the Chandpur Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal to hand over a girl to her husband at the Gazipur Child and Adolescent Development Center.
A division bench comprising Justices M Enayetur Rahim and Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Thursday after hearing a case in this regard.
Petitioner’s lawyer Sheikh Ali Ahmed Khokon said that Segufta Yasmin Mehzabin and Kamal Majumder of Chandpur ran away and got married. Later, Mehzabin’s mother filed a case of abduction and rape under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at Chandpur’s Hajiganj Police Station.
The girl and boy were arrested in the case and produced before the tribunal.
Her mother appealed to the court to take her into her custody, but as the girl didn’t agree to this, the court sent her to the Gazipur Child Development Center.
According to the case, accused Majumder later applied for bail from the HC. He even applied for his wife’s custody as she was 4 months pregnant. But it was rejected by the Chandpur court.
Later, the HC directed the caretaker of the Child Development Center to appear before the court along with the girl and her child.
The girl along with the newborn was produced before the HC today. Following the hearing, the HC directed the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal, Chandpur, to hand over the girl to her husband.
