An alleged drug trader has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Dharmapur village in Sadar upazila of Feni on early Monday.

The deceased identified as Anwar Hossain Raju, 25 who was accused in 10 cases, including rape, drug, arms, and robbery, filed with Feni Model Police Station.

In-charge squadron leader of Rab-7 Feni camp Safayat Jamil said tipped-off, a team of Rab force went to the area to hinder drug smuggling around 4:30 am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, drug smugglers opened fire on the Rab members, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight that left Raju injured. After the gunfight the injured was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The elite force recovered two foreign-made pistols, two one-shutter guns, one pistol, seven rounds of bullets and five shells of cartridges from the spot, the Rab personnel said.
