The massive fire that broke out at the capital’s Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) kitchen market in Gulshan-1 has been brought under control. The fire originated at the tin-shed kitchen market around 6:00 am on Saturday.

According to the fire service unit, 20 units of fire service are working to douse the fire.

Fire Service Control Room’s Duty Officer Ataur Rahman confirmed the incident.

“The fire started in the kitchen market area of the DNCC market. However, no casualties were reported,” he said.

Fire Service Duty Officer Rasel Shikder said, “20 units including eight fire service stations of Tejgaon, Baridhara, Kurmitola, and Mohammadpur are now working to control the fire of DNCC market.”

“As there are no arrangements for extinguishing the fire and lack of water, the work is going on slowly,” he added.

On January 3, 2017, a devastating fire reduced much of the DNCC Market at Gulshan-1 to rubble. No one was killed or hurt in that blaze but over 300 shops were gutted and a portion of the market collapsed on impact, causing losses worth several hundred of crores of taka.
