Growth target for budget 7.2 pc

The growth target has been set at 7.2 percent in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presented the budget proposal in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday afternoon in the presence of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The minister said the size of the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 is Tk 6,03,681 crore - which is 17.47 percent of the total GDP. “This year, I am proposing to keep the growth target of 7.2 percent in the budget.”
He added that the size of the new budget is Tk 64,698 crore more than the revised budget of the current fiscal year. “The size of the revised budget for the current fiscal year 2020-21 is Tk 5,38,943 crore. The proposed budget for the current fiscal year was Tk 5.68 thousand crores.”
Earlier on Thursday, a special Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Sangsad Bhaban in the capital approved the budget proposal of Tk 6,03,681 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Later, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal started presenting the national budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 in the parliament at 3:00 pm.
Among the ministers present at the budget session are Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak, Law Minister Anisul Haq, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud and others.
