Govt working to build a safe highway network: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the government is working tirelessly to build a fast, uninterrupted and safe highway network for the socio-economic development of the countrymen by building communication infrastructure.
He said this while attending the inaugural function of the construction work of the 4-lane Upgradation Project of Karnaphuli Tunnel Link Road including Anwara Upazila Link Road in Chattogram on Saturday morning.
The Bridges 0Minister said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel (Karnaphuli Tunnel) is being constructed under the riverbed of Karnaphuli River. “The tunnel will connect the port city of Chattogram with the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar via Anwara,” he said.
Stating that the development of communication system of Karnaphuli Tunnel along Patiya-Anwara- Banshkhali road is also urgent, the Road Transport Minister said, “The project was undertaken to upgrade 8km from Shikalbaha to Kalabibir Dighi and 3km from Kalabibir Dighi to Anwara Sadar – a total of 11km highway to 4-lane. The total cost of the project has been fixed at around Tk 407 crore.”
Obaidul Quader also said that under the project, 11.5 kilometers of highway will be upgraded to four lanes and three intersections will be constructed at Shikalbaha, Karnaphuli Tunnel junction and Kalabibir Dighi.
