Govt to distribute new textbooks to 40m students today

Today is Tuesday, the first day of 2019. Book festival across the country will be celebrated on this day of New Year. Through the festival, the government will release free new books to more than 40million students of primary and secondary level this morning.

Sources said, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will inaugurate the secondary level book festival at Azimpur Government Girls' School and College ground at 9:30 am.

Regarding this matter, Information official of Education Ministry Afrajur Rahman told Daily Bangladesh, “like every year, this year’s textbook festival will also be celebrated with education ministry’s initiative. The festival will be inaugurated centrally at Azimpur Government Girls School and College ground at 9:30 am. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as the chief guest there.”

On the other hand, with the primary and mass education ministry’s initiative central program will be held at the central playground of the University of Dhaka, said public relations officer Rabindranath Roy of the concerned ministry, sources informed.

The primary and mass education minister Mustafizur Rahman will inaugurate the festival at 10am, the official added.

Earlier, on December 24, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the textbook distribution program for the year 2019 by distributing new books to the several students at Ganobhaban. Including this year, the government is giving free books to students for the tenth consecutive times.

It has been learned that the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has already sent the book to the field level after publishing almost all the books for giving new books free of cost to more than 40 million primary and secondary level students. All preparations for the book festival have been completed, another source informed quoting ministry of education.

According to NCTB sources, from the pre-primary to the secondary level, there will be a total of 35.11 million 97 thousand 882 books for 4 crore 26 lakhs and 19 thousand 865 students. The cost for this is about Tk 1.8 billion.
