The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved a proposal for direct purchase of 1.5 crore doses of SARS Cov-2 vaccine developed by Chinese Sinopharm at $10 per dose to protect public health and prevent coronavirus infection. It will cost $150 million (BDT 1267 crore 50 lakh).
The decision was made at the 19th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today.
The meeting was attended by members of the committee, senior secretaries of the cabinet departments, secretaries of the concerned ministries, and senior officials. At the end of the meeting, the finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and additional secretary of the cabinet department Shahida Akhter highlighted various aspects of the approved purchase proposals.
At the end of the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Shahida Akhter told reporters that a proposal from the health department was raised at the table. The proposal is to purchase the SARS Cove-2 vaccine Velosel from the Chinese company Shinopharm to continue the vaccination activities to protect public health and prevent coronavirus infection.
She said five million doses of the corona vaccine will arrive in-country each month (June, July, and August).
She said a total of 15 million (1.5 crores) doses will arrive in three months. The total cost of the vaccine will be 150 million US dollars and BDT 1267 crores 50 lakh. Each dose vaccine will cost $10.
