The government has received a copy of the verdict of Lakshmipur-2 MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul's conviction in Kuwait in a case filed over human trafficking and money laundering, said Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen.
He said this while addressing reporters at a function at Purbachal Club in the capital on Friday.
"We have received the 61-page verdict a copy of Papul from the Kuwaiti government. Copies of the verdict have been given to the Home Ministry and the National Assembly," he said.
Replying to a question over the legality of Paplu's MP post, the minister said the Jatiya Sangsad would decide whether Papul's MP post would be canceled.
On January 28, a Kuwaiti criminal court sentenced MP Papul to four years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 53.19 crore for human trafficking and money laundering. Earlier, he was arrested by the Kuwaiti police on June 6 last year. Since then MP Papul has been lodged in Kuwait's jail.
