Tech giant Google has decided to automatically introduce a two-step verification process to strengthen the security of users. Even if the user doesn’t want to, the two-tier security system will be introduced in all Google services including Gmail in phases.
Google has announced this on World Password Day which was observed on Thursday.
Before this, the two-step verification process could be started only if the user wanted. But now it is mandatory for everyone. At the beginning of the announcement, 2000 million users have received instructions regarding the launch of Two-Step. This will also go in phases to others.
Mark Risher, director of product management at Google, said the importance of two-step verification is that many people may not know that “relying solely on passwords” is risky. Because either way the password can be hacked.
Usually, the second stage is to enter the One Time Password (OTP) or instant code displayed in the authentication app sent to the user’s mobile number.
