Authorities have suspended unloading goods from ships anchored at Chattogram port. The announcement was made by Port Secretary Omar Farooq on Monday afternoon.

He said the Bay of Bengal has become rough due to the impact of cyclone Amphan. For this, the unloading of goods from all ships anchored in the port has been stopped for the time being.

He added that the lighter ships have been instructed to anchor upstream of the Shah Amanat Bridge on the Karnafuli River. When the situation calms down, further instructions will be given.

The port secretary said necessary precautionary measures have been taken in the wake of the Meteorological Department's warning signal No 6. There are 99 ships anchored in the deep sea including Chattogram Port, Kutubdia, St. Martin and Cox's Bazar. Goods were being unloaded from some ships. Some ships were waiting. The waiting ships have been instructed to keep the engine running in the deep sea and stay in a safe position.
