Golden days return for jute

Bumper yield has been recorded at 10 union Parishad of Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha. Farmers are getting better prices than paddy. That’s why the yield of jute has been increased than expected. As a result, Golden days of jute return in this upazila.

Jute farmers are expecting a profit because of the bumper yield of the jute this year. However, there is some damage due to flood but they are still happy. Due to lack of timely rains, drought, good seed availability and fertilizer crisis, it has exceeded the target level and yields well. In the meantime, farmers have started giving jute and jig. 

Saghata Upazila agricultural office sources said jute has been cultivated on 3,540 hectares of land in this upazila. Jute has been planted far more than the previous year. Jute has also yielded a bumper. 

Farmers of Anantapur village of Saghata, Mozammel Haque, Abdul Haque, Abdul Aziz of Bati village and others, said that the jute bumper yielded at low cost. They said that during the boro season, Somebody cultivated BR-28 paddy and wheat. Then jute has been cultivated. Ropa Aman will be cultivated after harvesting jute. Now jute is being sold at Tk 1500-1800 per mound. In the previous year, it was 2000 to 2200 taka but farmers are happy because of the low production cost.
