Police have recovered the body of a young man from a house at the West Dhanmondi Housing in Mohammadpur's Basila in the capital on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Kamrul Islam, a gold medal-winning player of the Bangladesh Ansar Taekwondo National Team.

The victim's female friend Pratibha is also a taekwondo player. She claimed that Kamrul had come to his house and committed suicide. However, she could not say the reason for Kamrul's suicide.

Mentioning Kamrul as her good friend, Pratibha said that he used to visit her residence often. "Came to my house last night, Kamrul slept in the next room. At midnight, after hearing a sudden noise, I went to the room and spotted him hanging from the fan with a scarf.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 7:30 am on Friday, where the doctor pronounced him dead.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, police inspector at the DMCH camp.

Palash, a colleague of the deceased, said Kamrul had taken leave from the federation two days ago to go home.

Kamrul is the son of late Abdul Karim of Sikon Bazar in Karnafuli Upazila of Chattogram district. He was the youngest of two brothers and one sister.
