Girl returned alive after ‘death’; Police beat, forced accused to confess

The police beat the three accused and forced them to make a confessional statement in Narayanganj. Such information has obtained in the judicial probe report. A hearing on this will be held today.

Earlier, the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman directed a judicial inquiry into the incident.

A lawyer has filed a revision petition in the High Court seeking directions to summon the schoolgirl, who returned alive after rape and murder in Narayanganj on 25 August last year. 

It is to be mentioned that a report was published in the media under the headline ‘Schoolgirl returned alive after 49 days of being raped and dumped dead’. The report was brought to the High Court’s cognizance and a revision case was filed.

The fifth-grade schoolgirl went missing on 4 July of that year. Her father filed a kidnapping case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on 6 August. After the case, police arrested three persons – Abdullah, Rakib and Khalil, and made a confessional statement under section 164 in court.

In their confession — they said that the student was killed after being gang-raped and her body was dumped in the Shitalakshya River.

After taking the statement, the accused were sent to jail. The schoolgirl returned alive 49 days after the sensational incident. She is currently in police custody.
