Gazipur hotel blast, probe committee formed

18 people were injured in an explosion at a hotel in Gazipur city’s Board Bazar area on Sunday. 

A five-member investigation committee, led by Gazipur Additional District Magistrate Md Shahinur Islam, was formed to investigate the explosion. 

The committee has been asked to file a report within the next seven working days.

The other members of the committee are - Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Titas Gas Authority, Fire Service and a representative of the Directorate of Explosives.

The explosion took place on the ground floor of Tripty Hotel in Board Bazar area around 2:30 am when the staffs were getting ready to close it. 

On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze caused by the explosion. 

Due to the explosion, several establishments including Radhuni Hotel and Restaurant, adjacent to the Tripty hotel, were badly damaged. 

Firefighters also rescued a trapped security guard in the hotel. However, it is still unclear what triggered the explosion.
