The government has issued a fresh gazette notification extending the ongoing lockdown till May 23 from May 17, considering the current surge in coronavirus infections throughout the country.
The cabinet division issued the gazette notification on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said that the government has decided to extend
the nationwide strict restriction (lockdown) for another week from May 17 to 23 in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The State Minister said the decision on extending the lockdown has been taken as the government is suspecting that the infection rate of the COVID-19 may increase after May 22 to 30.
The government imposed the countrywide restrictions on public movement on April 5 and enforced the ongoing ‘strict lockdown’ from April 14. The lockdown was later extended till May 16.
