The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday ordered private mobile phone operator Grameenphone to pay another Tk 1,000 crore of the dues to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) within the next three months.

The six-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order, as the Grameenphone lawyer asked for time.

Earlier on Sunday, the leading mobile phone operator deposited Tk 1,000 crore to BTRC as per the order of the court.

Lawyer A M Amin Uddin and Md Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury stood for Grameenphone in the court while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam along with Khandaker Reza-e-Raqib appeared for the BTRC.

On Wednesday, the Appellate Division ordered Grameenphone to pay Tk 1,000 crore to BTRC within Monday (February 24) after hearing a review petition filed by the mobile operator. The court also decided to pass further order on the matter on Monday.

Later, Grameenphone announced that they would pay Tk 1000 crore to BTRC on Sunday. On behalf of Grameenphone, a four-member delegation handed over a pay order of Tk 1,000 crore to BTRC chairman Md Jahurul Haque on Sunday.

On November 24 last year, the Appellate Division asked GP to pay Tk 2,000 crore of the Tk 12,579.95 crore dues claimed by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission within three months.
