French President Macron slapped in face; 2 detained

French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped in the face on Tuesday by a man in a crowd during his official visit to the Southeast of France.
Two men have been arrested in the wake of the incident, according to French media and news agency Reuters.
In a video circulating on social media, a man slapped Macron when he reached out to shake hands with supporters.
Earlier, the man was heard shouting “Down with Macronia”. The man was apprehended by two security guards who were with Macron after the incident. Another removed Macron from there.
Macron spoke with restaurant workers and students to find out how people are returning to normal life after the incident.
The presidential administration said there had been an attempt to strike Macron, but declined further comment.
The identity of the man who slapped Macron and his motives were unclear.
