Four people, including Rohingya, were killed in a gunfight at the Kharangkhali area of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.

Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das confirmed the incident.

He said police went to the spot on the basis of reports of shootings between the two groups over a yaba transaction in the Kharangkhali area of Teknaf. Sensing the presence of the police there, they shot at the police. Police also fired back in self-defense. At one stage, when the drug traffickers retreated, four people were rescued from the spot and taken to the Teknaf Health Complex. Doctors later pronounced them dead.

He added that police recovered 50,000 pieces of yaba, two home-made weapons, and six rounds of ammunition from the spot. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
