Four killed in Gopalganj bus-truck clash

Four people were killed and at least 20 people were injured in a collision between bus and truck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Pona area of Kashiani Upazila in Gopalganj at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Sajahan Sheikh, 45, son of Ruku Sheikh of Mukundupur village, helpers Sohagh Miah, 28, son of Barkat Miah of Vutpasa village and Noyan Mullah, 25, son of Najrul Miullah of Ratail village under Kashiani upazila and bus passenger Shilpi Samaddar, 50, president of Bagerhat Mohila Parishad.

Officer-in-Charge of Kashiani police station Azizur Rahman said the accident occurred in the area at about 12.45 pm as a Pirojpur-bound bus collided head-on with a brick-laden pickup van, leaving three people dead on the spot and 15 others injured.

After getting the information of accident, the fire service and highway police rushed to the spot and rescued 20 passengers of the bus and sent them to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital and Kashiani Health Center.

After the accident, the traffic movement on the Dhaka-Khulna highway was halted almost one hour.
