Former AL MP Moqbul dies of coronavirus

Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and former lawmaker Alhaz Moqbul Hossain died of coronavirus (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). He was 70.

He died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around 9pm on Sunday. His son Mojibul Islam Panna confirmed the matter.

Panna said his father was admitted to CMH three days ago with Coronavirus. He distributed relief in various places during the corona crisis. The last time he handed over financial assistance to Awami League leaders and activists on May 14 at his home in Mohammadpur. Then he fell ill.

Moqbul Hossain's wife has also been diagnosed with coronavirus and is undergoing treatment at Shamarita Hospital.

Mokbul, a Member of the Parliament (MP) from Dhanmondi-Mohammadpur constituency from 1996-2001, was a member of the Awami League Central Advisory Council. He was also the vice-president of the undivided Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and former lawmaker Alhaz Moqbul Hossain.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has expressed deep grief and sympathy over the death of Moqbul Hossain.
