‘Food capacity to be increased to 35 lakh MT by 2030’

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said the food grain storage capacity will be increased to 35 lakh metric tons (MT) by 2030. ECNEC has recently received permission to build 30 silos.
He said while speaking as the chief guest at the distribution of household silos among the beneficiaries under the project titled “Supply of Household Silos for Safe Food Storage of Poor, Backward Minorities and Disaster Prone People Living in Different Parts of the Country” on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Upazila Parishad auditorium at Shivalaya in Manikganj on Tuesday.
The Food Minister said smart cards will be introduced in the next 6 months in the food-friendly program. This will ensure greater transparency and accountability in the distribution of food aid.
He said the government has taken initiative to build 200 paddy silos to ensure food safety. The modern silos will have a capacity of 5,000 metric tons. Farmers will collect wet paddy and process it here. This will ensure a fair price for the farmer.
The Food Minister said all are the beneficiaries of Sheikh Hasina’s development. “There is no sector where the Prime Minister has not touched on development, but BNP cannot see the development of Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
Presided over by Manikganj DC Muhammad Abdul Latif, MP AM Naimur Rahman and Mamtaz Begum addressed the function as special guests. Besides, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, director general of the Directorate General of Food, Additional Secretary Md. Khurshid Iqbal Rezvi, Superintendent of Police Golam Azad Khan spoke on the occasion.
