Flood affects 42 villages in Sherpur

Monsoon flood triggered by heavy rainfall and onrush of hilly water inundated 42 villages under Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district. Over 290 hectares of land has been submerged and 350 pond fish have been floated. About 17 educational institutions forced to close.

Ayub Ali resident of Moulvipara of Morichpuran UP said that the embankments of different areas of Chellakhali and Bhogi river are in threats due to heavy rainfall in the last 11-days. Many villages by the Bhogoi river bank are flooded. 17 educational institutes have forced to stop. Thousands of families are living in the water.

Akkas Ali, a resident of North Kognagar Rajkhalpar, said that lands are being destroyed due to sand layers. All the fish in the pond and the enclosure have floated. 

Marichpuran UP chairman Khandaker Shafiqul Islam said that the dam will be repaired along the river Dam of the Bhogai river as soon as the water goes down. All preparations have already been completed.
