Shamim Kabir, the first captain of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).

He breathed his last on Monday morning.

Shamim Kabir, a renowned opening batsman, was the captain of the first-ever match of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team- faced England’s MCC cricket team led by Clark on January 7, 1977- in a three-day unofficial test match which was held at Dhaka Stadium (now  Bangabandhu National Stadium).

The match was mainly organized to verify the ability of Bangladesh. The game was held to verify whether Bangladesh was eligible to participate in international cricket. In fact, this was the first journey of Bangladesh cricket after independence.

The death of the cricket personality has brought a shadow of mourn has come down in sports.
