The devastating fire, that leaves 71 people dead and many others injured, was originated from the second floor of the building named Wahid Mansion at Churihatta in Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka, said an investigation report of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
According to the report, it housed a number of chemical godowns. The deadly fire may originate from sparks when the electric switch is turned on or set fire inadvertently.
A six-member committee was formed on February 23 to investigate the Chawkbazar fire on February 20. The committee visited the site and collect data on February 25. Later they made the report after scrutinizing engineering and technical issues.
On Saturday, the report was handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
