Fire burns 2000 mound jute in Jamalpur

A devastating fire gutted about 2,000 mounds of jute at a godown at Sarishabari in Jamalpur on Friday morning.

According to the locals, three traders bought about 2,000 mounds of jute from different places and stored it in Habibur Rahman Rokon's warehouse at Hajibari intersection area. The current market value of the gutted jute is around half a crore takas. Being informed by locals fire service personnel brought the fire under control after two hours attempt.

Sarishabari Police visited the spot after receiving a complaint from Habibur Rahman Rokon.

Jute trader Rokon Mia said his warehouse had no electricity connection and no guards. The miscreants set fire to his warehouse as planned.

Sarisabari police OC Abu Fazlul Karim said the spot was inspected after receiving the complaint. Necessary steps will be taken subject to investigation.
