Fire breaks out at CMCH Psychiatry department

A fire broke out at the Psychiatry department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday morning. 

Nine vehicles of four firefighting units extinguished the blaze after half an hour. There was no report of any casualty. 

Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire originated around 5:30 am and it spread to a storeroom on the ground floor of a hospital building. 

On information, four firefighting units with nine vehicles rushed in and extinguished the blaze after half an hour, he said. 

Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan, in-charge of CMCH police outpost, said the fire originated from an air conditioner at the chamber of Dr M Mohiuddin. Later, it spread to a storeroom on the ground floor of a hospital building. 

Following the fire, panicked patients and their relatives were seen jostling for safety.
