A person was charred to death in a fire that broke out at a slum in Chattogram early on Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out at 6:00 am at the slum near the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area of the port city. On information, eight fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after one and half an hour of frantic efforts.
According to the fire service control room, a charred body has been recovered from a hut during a search-and-rescue operation in the slum.
However, the extent of loss caused by the fire could not be ascertained yet. Fire Service suspect an electrical short-circuit could have triggered the blaze.
