Female customs worker sentenced to 13 years in prison

A Khulna court today sentenced Rafeza Begum alias Nazma Haider Rafiza, a customs employee, to 13 years in prison in a case filed over acquiring non-income assets in Khulna. At the same time, she has been fined 1 crore and five lakh taka.

Khulna Divisional Special Court Judge Zia Haider passed the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. Rafeza Begum was present in the court during the hearing.

Rafeza Begum used to work in Chattogram Customs. She is from Sonadanga Thana of ​​Khulna metropolis.

Confirming the matter, ACC lawyer Khandaker Mojibur Rahman said Rafeza Begum is a third class employee. The court passed the verdict after finding evidence of grabbing huge amounts of illegal assets against her in the investigation.

On April 29, 2015, ACC official Mosharraf Hossain filed a case against Rafeza Begum at Sonadanga Police Station alleging corruption. Another ACC official Shamim Iqbal investigated the case. Rafeza Begum's husband MM Jahangir Alam is also working in customs. The ACC also filed a case against him.
