Father, son among 6 killed in lightning strikes

Six people, including father and son, were killed by lightning strikes in Panchagarh, Dinajpur, and Nilphamari. The incident took place on Monday afternoon.

Four of the dead identified. They are – Mohammad Ali of Bhajanpur in Tetulia Upazila and his son Anisur Rahman, Ripon Islam of Boda Upazila and Saleha Begum, wife of Nannu Mia of Khamargobindo village of Harati UP of Lalmonirhat Sadar.

Tetulia police station OC Md. Zahirul Islam said that several people including Mohammad Ali were cutting paddy on their land with his son. The father and son were seriously injured in the sudden lightning strike. When they were rescued and taken to Sadar Hospital, the doctor declared them dead.

Boda Police Station OC Abu Sayem Mia said Ripon Hossain went to fetch his pet duck from the side of the house as clouds appeared in the sky. At that time, he was struck by lightning and fell unconscious on the spot. When the locals took him to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead.

Besides, two more people were killed in lightning strikes in Dinajpur and Nilphamari.
