A fatal collision between two trains on Dhaka-Chattogram route left 15 dead in Brahmanbaria on Monday night
At least 15 people were killed and more than hundreds have been reported injured on Monday night in a collision between the Intercity Udayan Express and Turna Nishitha train in Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The deadly collision took place at around 2:45 am at
the Dhaka-Chattogram Mandavag railway station crossing. However, the casualties have not yet been identified.
Confirming the matter, Shyamal Kanti Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Akhaura Railway Police Station said: “The collision took place between Sylhet via Chattogram-bound Intercity Udayan Express and Chattogram via Dhaka-bound Intercity Turna Nishitha Express. Some of the bogies of the two trains were derailed. So far 15 bodies have been recovered. Six of them died on the spot and three died after being taken to the hospital. Later, six more injured people died.”
Rescue trains were coming to the spot to retrieve the missing bogies. In addition, the fire service and police are conducting rescue work, he also said.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet-Dhaka rail link with Chattogram has been snapped since the incident. On the other hand, Brahmanbaria DC Hayat-ud-Daula Khan and SP Md Anisur Rahman visited the spot.
In the meantime, Bangladesh Railway authorities have formed two separate probe bodies while Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner formed another probe body to investigate the deadly incident.
