An accusation of forcibly occupying land against Three Angle Marine Limited Company has been raised in Munshiganj’s Gazaria Upazila.

The shipyard company authority has been forcibly occupying lands through the influence of local terrorists by making fake deeds of privately-owned land. They have purchased around 38 acres of the land while they have occupied more than 110 acres of land so far. These 110 acres of land include privately-owned land, demesne, canals, rivers, roads, and land allotted for the landless.

Habibullah Mollah, the President of the Fuldi Nodi Teen Fosholi Jomi Rokkha Sangram Parishad, confirmed the matter.

Locals alleged that the Three Angle authorities have purchased some land in the west of the Kumira canal and the south of the Buruchak canal along the Meghna River. But they have occupied the entire canal and the surrounding land by using the influence of local terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, locals are holding human chains and protests from Sonali Market Ferry Ghat to Gazaria Union Parishad demanding punishment of Engineer Amirul Islam, owner of Three Angle Marine Limited, and involved land grabbers on the first day of the three-day program last Tuesday. Over 2,000 people of different classes from different unions of the upazila took part in the human chain and protest.

Protesters called for immediate action against Three Angle authorities

The protesters, who chanted slogans such as ‘No land grabbers can stay in Gazaria’, called for immediate action against the Three Angle authorities for protecting the lands and rivers of the area.

Hanif Pramanik, a farmer from Nayanagar village, said, “Three Angle authorities have forcibly occupied our ancestral land. They have illegally filled our three croplands where we used to cultivate potatoes, maize, and paddy all year round.”

I did not sell my land to them, said Mostafa Rari, another farmer, accusing the Three Angle authorities have made fake documents of his land and threatened him to kill if he tries to enter the land.

Meanwhile, locals are frustrated with the administration’s silent role in the inconsistency of the Three Angle Company. AC Land of the upazila assured them to stop filling the land while informing him but it was not implemented.

Ataur Rahman Arju, a member of the Fuldi Nodi Teen Fosholi Jomi Rokkha Sangram Parishad, said farmers would go on a ‘hunger strike’ next week in front of the Gazaria Union Parishad as part of the campaign against Three Angle land grabbers.

Abu Taleb Bhuiyan, chairman of the Gazaria Union Parishad, confirmed the matter and expressed solidarity with the agitated locals, saying, “We have tried several times to resolve the issue. But Engineer Amirul Islam, managing director of Three Angle Marine Limited, and officials, including Lokman Hossain, did not attend the meeting. Gazaria Union Parishad has approached the Three Angle Marine Limited authorities several times to resolve the issue, subject to discussion of land deeds and documents, but they have not responded.”

As a representative of them, I am always by the side of my people in this fight against land grabbers, Abu Taleb Bhuiyan added.

Meanwhile, Lokman Hossain, an official of Three Angle Marine Limited, said such allegations of occupying lands are baseless. We are the victims of political jealousy. Seeing the expansion activities of the Three Angle Company, a group of people has been spreading propaganda against us.

However, when an attempt was made to contact, the mobile phones of Engineer Amirul Islam, managing director of Three Angle Marine Limited, Sabinur Rashid, and several other senior officials were found switched off.

Three Angle Marine Limited started commercial activities in 2012 near Nayanagar, Balurchar, and Daulatpur villages on the banks of Meghna River in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. They have been expanding the company’s business at various times since its inception. Following this, the company started illegally occupying privately-owned land.

It is learned that there is also a case related to debt against Three Angle Marine Limited Company and its nine directors. However, the Three Angle authorities have taken stay order from the High Court in this case.
