For the last few years, fallen land had been used in advance potato cultivation and farmers have made revolution by cultivating early varieties of potatoes in the last few years with the help of locals Agricultural Department. If the weather is favorable, potatoes will get more profit this year than last year.

Farmers have cultivated local and improved varieties of potato in significant quantities in the current season. This type of potato can be marketed within just two months of planting. As a result, they expected better prices than the previous years in the market. Like last year, potato disease is fewer this year also. So farmers are hoping to produce bumper yield.

This year, the target of potato cultivation was determined on 1,670 hectares of lands in 10 UP units of the district. But it has been cultivated in 800 hectares of land. Still, farmers are planting potatoes in some areas. If the yield is good, then 35-40 mound potatoes can be produced per bigha land. Whose market value is about Tk 30,000. Farmers have to pay Tk 8-9 thousand to cultivate per Bigha land.

Farmer Ariful of Enayetpur village said, he got good quality seed keeping potato seed in cold storage during the winter season. This year, we are cultivating potato in 3 bighas of land. Now the work is going on. Last year, I had earned Tk 25,000. Hopefully, this time will be much more profitable.
