‘Sagar-Runi’ Murder report delay for 63rd time

The court has fixed March 31st as the date for submitting the investigation report of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case. The date of submission of the report delayed for 63 times so far.

Although the court had fixed the Sunday for submission of the investigation report, the investigation officer could not submit the report today. Later Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas set this new date.

This couple was killed on February 11, 2012 at the house of West Rajabazar in the capital. Golam Mostafa Sarwar alias Sagar Sarwar was the news editor of Maasranga Television and Meherun Nahar Runa alias Meherun Runi was the senior correspondent of ATN Bangla. The bodies were recovered in the morning the next morning.

On this incident, Rooney's brother Nausher Alam Roman filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. 8 people including Rooney's alleged friend Tanvir Rahman were accused in the case.

The other accused in the case are Home Security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Mintu alias Bargira Minto alias Masum Mintu, Kamrul Hasan Arun, Palash Rudra Pal, Tanvir and Abu Sayeed.

Initially, the investigation officer of this case was an SI of this police station. Four days later, the investigations of the sensational murder case were handed over to Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch DB.

But after more than two months investigation, DB failed to uncover the mystery. Later, on the directive of the High Court, the investigation of the murder case was entrusted to RAB on 18th April in the same year.
