District Agriculture Department said that this year the target of Aman cultivation in the district has been fixed at 58,430 hectares of land. In Magura Sadar Upazila 22,300 hectares, 11, 700 hectares in Sreepur upazila, 13,360 hectares in Shalikha upazila, 11,700 hectares in Mohammadpur upazila cultivated Aman paddy. However, the production target of Aman paddy is 175, 290 metric tons, it will exceed the target because of good yield.
Sadar Upazila hajipur village farmer Moktar Hossain said that due to some water at the end of the monsoon this year, Bona Aman has produced good yield. In the meantime, two fields' paddy cutting is finished. Twenty-eight mound rice produced per bigha. The price of rice in the market is not satisfactory. Per mound, rice is selling for Tk 600 to Tk 650. I planted Aman in the 3 bighas last year. After getting good yield, we planted Aman in 4 bighas this year.
Ramnagar village Model farmer Sirajul Mondal said, due to good yield at low cost, I cultivated Aman in 7 bighas of land. But I am concerned as the price is low at the peasant level.
Deputy District DAE Jahidul Alam said that the farmers will get better yield because of the favorable weather conditions. So, the Department of Agricultural Extension has regularized the development of the cultivation of Aman in the field and encouraged farmers with technical assistance. Being benefitted with good yield at a comparatively low cost, farmers are also interested in cultivating bona Aman now.
