A family of four with no underlying health conditions have all died from the coronavirus pandemic in the same week.

86-year-old Alfredo Bertucci from the northern region of Lombardy in Italy, died last week and was quickly followed by his wife and their two sons.

Alfredo, a well-respected blacksmith, died on March 27. His two sons Daniele, 54, and Claudio, 46, both succumbed to the illness in the days following, and their mother, Angela Albergati, 77, died on Wednesday morning.

The local media reported that all four had been being treated in the same hospital. They had been experiencing symptoms associated with coronavirus, including a fever, cough, and breathing difficulties.

Expressing deep shock and sorrow, family friend Massimo Giovanni Fasano told local media: "It is a real tragedy. They were all so healthy and strong,”

Lombardy, where Alfredo Bertucci lived in, has been the region in Italy worst hit by the crisis, and Italy has been the worst-hit country in Europe. So far, the country has seen more than 110,000 cases, second only to the US, and at least 13,155 deaths.
